Artist Statement

Amy Leeworthy’s practice moves across various mediums, including ceramics, glass, and drawing. She is interested in how materials can record time, touch, and process, holding traces of both the elemental (fire, pigment, light) and the intimate (gesture, memory, longing). She works from her home studio in McCrae on the Mornington Peninsula.

Theme: BLUE

My studio practice includes making cremation urns with and for families, and this work has shaped how I think about care, containment, and what it means to hold something that has changed state. These works are not for ashes, but for things that continue to exist differently.

Blue has long been associated with distance — with what we can see but not reach. Here, blue becomes a way of thinking about what has moved out of our lives, but not out of our inner world. In deep water, blue is the last colour to disappear — the wavelength that travels furthest, the part that remains. Here, blue becomes a way of thinking about what stays with us, even as it changes.
