Artist Statement
I’m a painter based on the Mornington Peninsula who works primarily with acrylics, exploring the play of light across the coastal landscape. Much of my practice begins outdoors, walking the coastline, taking photographs, and sketching scenes that later evolve into paintings in the studio. Drawn to the transformative power of light, I aim to capture the way it shimmers on the water, casts long shadows from coastal plants, and makes the landscape glow under the rising or setting sun. My work seeks to translate the tranquillity of these natural moments, inviting viewers to share in the peace and stillness that the environment evokes.
Theme: EMBER
The landscape fills me with a sense of calm and energy. When I’m photographing and collecting ideas, I feel completely focused and in tune with my surroundings. I’m drawn to the smaller details—the shape of petals, shifting colours in the grass, birds in motion, and the light playing on water. Observing these changes deeply inspires me and fuels my creative process.
This work is based on a favourite location: Pt Leo. I’m captivated by how the creek carves its way through sand and grasses, reflecting the plants and gum trees as it flows into Westernport Bay. At sunset, the landscape transforms—the grasses glow, water shimmers with jewel-like colours, and light filters through the trees as the sky comes alive. This piece is my response to those moments—an attempt to capture the beauty, stillness, and energy I feel in the landscape.
