Artist Statement
Jessie Rose Ford is a multidisciplinary artist based in Melbourne (Naarm). Working in oil, her landscape practice embraces the sensorial immediacy of painting outdoors. Each work honours a particular place or fleeting moment of awe in nature, captured through colour, play and mark-making.
Theme: EMBER
My artworks were painted en plain air along the Merri Creek and Yarra River in Melbourne/Naarm. I seek out pockets of nature hidden amongst suburban homes and paint what gives me a sense of intrigue or awe in that moment; whether that be glowing tree tops in golden hour, swaying branches or certain colours.
'Between Golden Hour and Dusk' was painted toward the end of the day, capturing the changing light as the sun set. 'Swirling' reflects the transition from Winter to Spring and the different energy it brings -when the wind picks up and we experience 4 seasons in one day. 'By the River at Yarra Flats' depicts a calm, still evening in a secluded spot by the riverbank as night began to fall.
