Artist Statement
I am a Swedish / Barbadian artist living & working on Bundjalung Country (Byron Shire, Australia). My work revolves around themes of the feminine, the intrinsic human connection to land and earth and the longing for a lucid state of softer realms. Through multiple mediums, but mainly figurative painting, I stay in communication with the unseen world.
Theme: EMBER
This painting evokes a sense of land, communicated through color in drifting movements of brushstrokes and stains, rising up like a warm wind. The human body suspended in landscape as much as the landscape is suspended mid flight around the body. Moving away from the landscape being only its solid forms like rocks and branches but also the more subtle non-forms that shape the mood of a landscape like wind and cloud and smoke. Warm tones and dancing lines evoke a feeling of fire igniting. Inspired as much by the small gentle plumes of smoke that first rise when embers spark as the feathery Cirrus clouds that drift in long strokes across the sky on the eve of a spring storm.
