Artist Statement
Amy Leeworthy’s practice moves across various mediums, including ceramics, glass, and drawing. She is interested in how materials can record time, touch, and process, holding traces of both the elemental (fire, pigment, light) and the intimate (gesture, memory, longing). She works from her home studio in McCrae on the Mornington Peninsula.
Theme: CURRENT
Like electricity, CURRENT moves through a gap; for me, it is the flow created by what cannot touch. I regularly dream of houses with missing rooms—spaces I long to find but cannot enter. These voids generate their own energy: like a circuit, the gap itself makes desire and imagination circulate.
My work in this exhibition engages with that charge, shaping material around absence as a conduit for possibility. Glass shows this tension clearly—fragile and luminous, solid and transparent—a material that holds the pull between presence and absence.
