Artist Statement

My work is a meditation on presence and transformation, where each piece emerges from a persistent feeling or idea, shaped through experimentation and slow discovery.

Using a coiling technique, I handbuild each work, exploring the contrasts inherent in human nature. My ceramic practice unfolds across different series, each approaching a new angle or inquiry. I like to create by slowly shaping around an emotion, character, or story—allowing each form to find its voice through process and time.

Theme: CURRENT

Since I can remember, I have loved collecting stones from the beaches we visited. One stone, in particular, has stayed with me—my grandfather found it on the Baltic coast and told me it had special powers. It was a Hühnergott (hag stone). I treasured it, held it often, and felt deeply connected to it.

Working with ceramics feels similar. Once a piece reaches a certain point, it’s as if I dip into a current—a flow—where the work begins to show me how it wants to exist. By then, it already has its own soul, and I am there to shape and finish it in its right form and surface, always encouraging its unique voice.

I approach my practice as a conversation with the material, searching for the contradictions of our nature: the raw and the refined, the line and the curve, the presence and the quiet emergence of matter.
